I’ve made it a tradition in 2015 to visit Jimolly’s Bakery Cafe at least twice a week with my boyfriend. We read, snack on their amazing baked goods and sandwiches (the Cobb Club is like heaven between bread), sip on tea and espresso, play Risk, study. The girls who work behind the counter are young, friendly and fun, and the atmosphere of the cafe – a jumble of interesting vintage artifacts and signs on the walls, old wood floors and cool stone mosaic tiling, comfortable couches and burlap covered tables – makes this a perfect meeting spot any day of the week (except Sundays. They’re closed on Sundays).

The menu offers a wide variety of breakfast food, sandwiches, salads, and bakery items, as well as several speciality coffees and teas. They even have a salad bar where they’ll build a custom salad for you! Many restaurants in Truro are fairly deserted throughout the day, with only a handful of people trickling in and out, but Jimolly’s is always packed with satisfied customers. The only time I’ve seen it fairly empty is when it gets close to closing time.

Jimolly’s got its name from two basset hound siblings, Jim and Molly. The owners of these dogs, brother and sister Mitch and Heidi Cooke, own the cafe. Jimolly’s gets their baked goods from Brookfield Bakery, which the pair also owns (Brookfield is a town about 15 minutes away from Truro). Mitch Cooke’s girlfriend, Kim Smith, manages the cafe, and Kim’s sister works there as well. It really is a family business!

Although I worked at Starbucks for several years (or perhaps because I worked at Starbucks), I’m always looking to find and try independent cafes. I love the laid back atmosphere and cool decor of places like this. I’d highly recommend stopping in at Jimolly’s for reasonably priced and yummy food and drinks, friendly service, and a unique and cozy spot!
