I spent less than a week in Cambodia, which is not nearly as much time as I would’ve liked. I didn’t know a lot about Cambodia before traveling there, but in the short time I visited, I learned so much about the country’s tragic history. I toured the Killing Fields and the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum in Phnom Penh, where visitors are educated about the horrific Khmer Rouge reign.  I also took a boat ride on the Tonle Sap, saw Angkor Wat and several other temples in Angkor Archaeological Park (including the one from Tomb Raider!), and partied on the iconic Pub Street (as tourists tend to do) in Siem Reap. I’d love to go back and spend more time touring around and continue to learn about this amazing country and its rich history.

Carvings in Bayon Temple. We were told that if a king died before the carvings he ordered were finished, the new king would start fresh with his own carvings, instead of having the previous ones completed. You can see how the picture is incomplete here. (Siem Reap, Cambodia — October 2014)
