Last November, my boyfriend Holden and I traveled to Abbotsford, British Columbia for 5 days to visit his cousin, Liam. Primarily, we visited local breweries and watched a lot of Letterkenny, however we also drove to White Rock, a small beach town located 42 kilometres from Abbotsford, and very near the Canada-US border.
White Rock is known for having the longest pier in Canada, at 470 metres (or 1542 feet). Sadly, the original pier was destroyed by a storm in December 2018, but it has since been rebuilt and we were able to visit it during this trip.
Holden’s dad and Liam’s mom spent some of their teenage years growing up in White Rock, and so this is a place that they’ve been to multiple times, though this was my first visit there. I was really excited to see this cute little town, which I’d heard Holden speak about and seen his gorgeous photos of, and experience it for myself.
We got to White Rock before sunset, and spent some time walking to the end of the pier and sitting on large rocks along the ocean (have I ever mentioned how much I love the ocean? Living in landlocked Calgary sometimes feel like torture to me!) It was so nice to skim my fingers along the water and smell the salty (albeit slightly fishy) air.
After taking some sunset photos and appreciating the scene, we walked along the oceanfront shops and popped into Moby Dick, a classic fish and chip restaurant, for dinner before heading back to Liam’s apartment. I had clam chowder, as I usually do when I’m somewhere near the ocean, and it came complete with a little whale garnish on top! Too cute.
Enjoy my photos from this picturesque place! I absolutely hope to make it back someday, and perhaps stay a night or two right in town to do some further exploring…
